The journal becomes the first (?) to publish scientific data as an embedded 3D object in a PDF using Acrobat's rendering technology. I'm betting that use of advanced data visualization in documents will be a growing trend in the next five years. Hopefully interactive 3D will enhance researchers understanding of the data, but if nothing else it's fun eye candy.
