Well, as hard as we’ve been trying for last couple days, we have finally changed default theme to the new iTunes MediaWiki Theme v.0.1 for SiteHoppin.com.

What is this?

Since our site runs MediaWiki, each user has the ability to select their own skin, sorta like Winamps or iTunes skins. (We stumbled onto this, we did not know before developing the site.)

The new theme is currently only tested with Firefox, IE7, and Safari.

It seems like with IE7 or Safari, you might see a bug but we just got done for Firefox so we will get the bugs by tomorrow.

You can go back to the old theme if you want to simply by going to your preferences and changing the skin back to “gumax”.

We will be releasing the iTunes MediaWiki theme once we are finished with it to MediaWiki archives. We don’t know how popular it will be but it’d be good to give back to the wiki community.

In the future, we will have new themes that SiteHoppers can choose from with different sizes and locations for the menus.

In conclusion of our little almost 3 week experiment, we realized that MediaWiki was the perfect choice for this sorta site.

First, MediaWiki has a built-in caching and has hidden advanced object caching for further manipulations.

Second, MediaWiki was built for large user community, meaning you can expand to as many servers as you can afford.

Third, no one else is using a wiki like SiteHoppin’ drunken developers.

Fourth, MediaWiki is a great software with easy to understand php and mysql commands.

Fifth, No one else is using it, if you hack it a little, it’s a new technology by itself. This means you will get indexed by Google “how” you want it. Although blogs have been great at doing that, having your own search engine can confuse other search engines and simply index you better.
