SiteHoppers Interview John Chow at AdTech 2008 - 18 Secrets about Blogging and the Internet Revealed!
Hi y’all,
Since John reviewed our site couple days ago and I found out he was going to be at AdTech, I figured there would be a good chance of running into him and thanking him for the review. I also made up some quick questions to find out “secrets” behind John Chow’s success and to seek advice for monetizing SiteHoppin.com.
Plus, AdTech was great, I didn’t know there were hundreds of advertising/publisher programs. I might go there tomorrow again to actually find some new ways to monetize our site so and maybe do couple more video interviews with more bloggers.

You know what John is saying while taking this picture? (He says “Evil” instead of “Cheers.)

Yup, we had to take a picture together, tryin’ to be more evil than he is…

Another worst kept secret behind AdTech, held at Moscone Center? Metreon, an entertainment center with fine dining and theators, is on the backside of the Moscone Center. (Just walk to the back of it where there’s a big park)
I was there today to eat lunch at Firewood Cafe and surprised that not that many people from the show were there. (Next time, I highly suggest the pizza from Firewood Cafe, it’s really good (almost authentic Italian pizza).

In John Chow style, I took a picture, don’t get joulous! This is the best pizza I’ve had since I was in Rome, Italy 5 years ago. I had to gulp it down in about 5 minutes as John Chow promised me an interview at 2PM, I started eating around 1:50PM.
Cheers everybody as I had to undergo serious hangovers from last night AND I was sober throughout the show. I just talked to my dad today and he wants me to stop drinking so much. Errr…maybe I will drink a little bit less.

Nice one Max. BTw what’s with the evil thingy between you and John?
Lol…trying to make money online…
Nice work Max.
hey thanks!
Nice interview! Although, I’d much rather listen to you than Chow any day. Kudos to him for being successful, but I don’t see him as being a creative genius like you, Max. Also, who’s going to buy JohnChow.com? No one. On the other hand, SiteHoppin has tremendous upward potential and could turn out to be a huge money maker for you. I thought the comments on the review on Chow’s site were interesting and I suspect that many of the negatives that were raised might be taken care of when the toolbar becomes functional.
Related questions: How difficult would it be to have the toolbar read an RSS feed and follow the links? I suppose that all the sites would first have to be input into the database and then tagged. Is there a way to batch an entire list of sites with a common tag and input them at once? That would be cool.

Lol… thanks Kent. I need to keep networking with people who are on the forefront of technology.
Yes, I am thinking of a Del.icio.us API plugin that will enable every user to “import” their del.icio.us links with a click of a button. For now, I say you could keep using del.icio.us until that function is available.. . It’s just in the back of my mind and just simply have no time to get to it but will get to it after our SH toolbar is up later this week.

I think there are lots Chinese who goes by the name of John Chow.
Forgot say nice job Max!!
Great interview.
LOL i did not know that joke could be one of the tips, this really surprises me! Thanks again probably next time you should ask him what kind of affiliate should one choose?
LOL i did not know that joke could be one of the tips, that’s sure surprises me. Yea i think we all should drop the Google Adsense.
By the way what kind of affiliate program should one chooses?
Hi EliteVillain,
I will have an updated video interview with affiliate program companies and breakdowns soon. Check back later tonight!

Dude! Do you know what you’ve got here. This is GOLD. This might be some of the best John Chow info I’ve heard from him since the book and it’s right up to date. This is VERY unique content for you blog. NICE going.
Smart and bold move for you to drive over, put together some questions, and get a camera. Nice. Boldness and preparation will always put you ahead.
Also the pics of you as a jr. evil guy are funny as hell.
Hey, thanks Dave,
Make sure to stop by later this week as we got about 15 video interviews with every publishing/advertising companies that can help grow your blog.
Nice stuff. He seems like a nice enough guy. I don’t know why people hate on him so much.
Good Questions, I think allot of the responses he gave are common marketing answers if your a webmaster and marketer. But if your a newbie its gold information. my new blog Daily Tech Impressions is earning around anywhere between $500-$1,000 a month however I have about 15 Affiliate blogs as well, and I have been a webmaster since 2004 and I learned early what Commission Junction can really do for you. I have heard about Pepperjam maybe I will check it out. many bloggers don’t update daily, content has always been king and search engines love to crawl new material, the more updated your content is the more crawls you will get, Google crawls Daily Tech Impressions at least once an hour according to my logs and I can find my content in the organic listings as soon as 4-6 hours later. I cant wait to see the rest of your interviews, allot of good information out their on monetizing your blogs.
Yeah good stuff Shawn,
Keep up your good work, maybe you can give feedback as I slowly unload the 15 or so interviews I took today.
Cheers~
Awesome MAX! That was a great interview and he seemed pretty gracious. Did you have to do much persuading to get the interview?
yey! Yeah, I simply asked him for an interview. John just said yes. John’s a great guy.
And that’s why I said YOU did a good job, you had the guts to ask for an interview. Tech said “if you’re a newbie its gold” (and then said he learned something new).
But you got John to reveal all kinds of interesting and helpful stuff, it was candid and in the moment-so it wasn’t just the stuff that the top dogs just always say. Trust me, Tech may have been doing this for 4 years but I was in TV for 20, so I know a good interview. You even used fun graphics to highlight key stuff. And it’s fresssssh, one day old, and what worked 5 years ago may or may not work today-so it’s good to hear what’s working for people NOW. And the Digg stuff? Great.
Lol… thanks Dave. If you were still working in TV, I’d let you put it on TV.
Thanks again for truly positive comments, I will keep going strong!
Max
